DID-METAB Statement

What is the DID-METAB Statement?

The DID-METAB Statement includes recommendations in the form of a 29-item checklist that encompasses a core set of items relating to dietary information for reporting in human studies examining the metabolome.

The development of the DID-METAB Statement reporting guideline has been registered on the Enhancing the QUAlity and Transparency Of health Research (EQUATOR Network) HERE

The core outcome set that forms part of the DID-METAB Statement has been registered in the Core Outcome Measures in Effectiveness Trials (COMET Initiative) Database HERE

Aim and scope of the DID-METAB Statement

The unsatisfactory quality of reporting of dietary interventions is not unique to the field of nutritional metabolomics and has been demonstrated as unsatisfactory more broadly in human clinical research. However, given the emergence of metabolomics and the intricate nuances of utilising this technology for dietary assessment applications, there is dire need for improved comparability and reproducibility of findings for the field to continue to excel. Recommendations on the reporting of such studies that are endorsed by leading journals in the field will be crucial for the uptake of the DID-METAB Statement and ultimately, the quality of reporting.

We aimed to identify core items relating to dietary interventions implemented in human feeding studies examining the metabolome and establish a checklist that encompassed these items and recommendations for their reporting in such research articles. An iterative Delphi process was conducted among an international pool of experts (DID-METAB Delphi Working Group) to obtain consensus on core diet item details (DIDs) and associated reporting recommendations, in the form of a checklist. This work is presented as the DID-METAB Statement, which aims to strengthen the reporting of diet item details in feeding studies measuring the dietary metabolome.
